Texas born but now Nashville based, Gary is an award winning blues songwriter and performer. He co-wrote with Taj Mahal and Keb Mo the song “Don’t Leave Me Here” for their project “Tajmo.” Tajmo won the Grammy for “Best Contemporary Blues Album,” was nominated for Blues Foundation's “Best Music Award” for Best Album of the Year and the song was nominated for “Best Song of the Year” for 2018 Blues Music Awards.
Gary co-wrote with producer Tom Hambridge the title cut to Buddy Guy’s recent release “The Blues is Alive and Well.”
Other blues greats including BB King, Eric Clapton. Van Morrison, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Cotton, Junior Wells, BB King, Etta James, John Mayall, Delbert McClinton, Joe Bonamassa and George Thorogood all recorded Gary's work.
There are over six hundred recordings of Gary's songs by country, rock, folk, bluegrass and pop artists such as Ringo Starr, Garth Brooks, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, John Prine, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, Waylon Jennings and Fleetwood Mac. His music has been included in motion pictures and on television.
Gary is a two time Grammy winning producer of Delbert McClinton’s albums and produced albums for numerous notable others.
